Chartering Requirements

Background

Colony Requirements

  1. Charter group must have at minimum 12 undergraduate brothers.
  2. Average GPA greater than or equal to a 2.5 GPA.
  3. Active Faculty Advisor, and an alumni advisor, approved by the Grand Consul.
  4. Financially stable with an approved accounting system established.
  5. A Housing Fund established with the Tau Delta Phi Management Company, the amount of which equals $200 or more.
  6. An unencumbered bank balance. The account balance must be the greater of the following, after all installation expenses are paid: $250.00 or $15.00 per brother.
  7. A record of good leadership and management.
  8. The Colony must be within the process of seeking the recognition of the college or university.
  9. At least one year of age as a fraternity at the time of petitioning.
  10. Participation of brothers in campus activities. In addition, must perform and have a record of Community Service for both the university/college community and the community at large.
  11. Invite chapters in area to visit the colony and campus.
  12. A retreat held within 90 days prior to petitioning for the charter. At the retreat, specific goals are to be established. These goals should be based upon the chapter's goals for one year following the actual chartering.
  13. At the time of petitioning, the Charter Fee is to be submitted. In addition, that semester's Annual Membership Fee's (AMF's) for all Charter (Founding) Members are to be submitted. The charter fee is $300.00. The charter is the legal document that is displayed as evidence of being a chartered chapter of Tau Delta Phi Fraternity. The name of your college or university, the chartering date, and the names of those who were Charter (Founding) Members are inscribed on the charter.
  14. A record of at least one member registered at a National Convention.
  15. Submit for approval, a copy of the chapter constitution and by-laws.
  16. Be within compliance of the Fraternity’s Educational Bylaw.
  17. Submit a declaration of your understanding and compliance with the National Constitution, By-laws, Traditions, and the Dues and Assessment Structure of Tau Delta Phi Fraternity.
  18. Submit a complete and thorough history of your colony, and if you are a reactivation, in addition, submit a complete and thorough copy of your chapter's past history.

Alumni Association Requirements

  1. Publication of 2 Newsletters for the Alumni in a calendar year.
  2. Hold at least one annual social event.
  3. Produce an Annual Report.
  4. Organize one project for the benefit of the undergraduates.
  5. Minimum of 15 members in good standing open to members of chapters without an Alumni Association of their own, and to relocated brothers.

  7. Chartering Fee of $300.00.
  8. $50.00 annual membership fee for each member in good standing which is also due by the time the chartering fee is paid.
